At Shelmar Acres we sell our beef by the quarter, which includes a variety of cuts like ground beef, roasts, and steaks.

We take pride in providing our customers with high-quality beef that locally raised and antibiotics free.

Our cattle are fed a diet that consists primarily of forages and grass that are grown here on our farm.  Our beef is processed in a USDA-inspected facility to ensure its safety and quality, so you can feel confident in your purchase.

Beef FAQs

The cattle are fed a mixture of grass, corn, and barley.  No extra hormones or antibiotics are given to the cattle. 

We sell beef in quarters, halves or whole animals. (Customers also often split a quarter with other people on their own.) The amount of meat in a quarter varies depending on the animal.  On average, there is approximately 120-125 lbs of beef in a quarter. 

Costs vary depending on the size of the cattle and current beef market prices.  Quarters can range from $750-850 total.  (The beef is approx $500-$600 and butchering costs are approximately $200-250)

In a typical quarter there in a combination of roasts, steaks, and ground beef.  A typical quarter will include (*varies on size of cattle being butchered)…

  • 1-2 Sirloin Tip Roast
  • 2-3 Chuck Roast
  • 1-2 Rump Roast
  • 2-3 London Broil
  • 1-2 Beef Brisket
  • 2-3 Sirloin Steaks
  • 2 Flat Iron Steaks
  • 6-7 NY Strip Steaks*
  • 6-7 Delmonico Steaks*
  • 6-7 Ranch Steaks
  • 3-4 Filet Mignon 
  • 2-3 Short Ribs
  • Lots of ground beef! (50+ pounds)

Yes!  We have the beef butchered at Smucker’s Meats in Mount Joy, PA.  They outshine all other butchers we have used in the way they package.  Once the meat is hanging at the butcher, customers fill out an online form from Smucker’s and give individualized instructions.  For instance, if you would like more ground beef made instead of roasts, you can specify that.

Payment can be made when the meat is ready to pick-up.  The total sum comes to Shelmar Acres by cash, check, or Venmo.  Once the payment is made the meat can be picked up at Smucker’s Meats in Mount Joy. Contact Amber Bitterman with questions: 717-587-0073 or jabitterman@gmail.com
